Cash games online have a lot of familiar players grinding it out at the highest levels every day. One of the most familiar is Tom “Durrrr” Dwan. This week he was seated with four other players at a $500/$1000 NL Holdem cash table when a big hand went down. Seated at the table were “Durrrr”, “Patrik Antonius”, “Cole South”, “pokerhontas2k6”, and “martonas”. Both Durrrr and martonas had over $300K in front of them when the big hand played out, which began when Cole South raised the blind to $3K to go.

Patrik Antonius and pokerhontas2k6 both got out of the hand, and then martonas re-raised it from the small blind to $12K. Never to be outdone, Durrrr re-raised it again from the big blind to $35,600. That got rid of Cole Smith, but martonas wasn’t going anywhere, and called the bet, making the pot worth over 74K already. The two saw a flop of 2d-Kh-3s, and both players checked the action to see the next card. The turn was the 4d, which prompted martonas to make a big bet of $78K. Durrrr thought about it for a minute and made the call, bringing the pot up to over $230K at this point.
The river card looked to be a harmless 6c, but that didn’t stop martonas from betting his remaining $260k. Durrrr called the bet almost immediately, but didn’t have enough in front of him to cover the full $260K. He put in the rest of what he had, which brought the pot up to over $603K. martonas was holding pocket kings and had flopped a set, but it wasn’t good against Durrrr’s 4s-5s which was enough to make a straight.
Apparently Durrrr didn’t realize how big of a dog he was when he called the pot size bet on the turn, but the decision paid him in the end. The most interesting play about this hand was Durrrr’s re-raise pre-flop against a raise and re-raise. He completely disguised his hand as something big, and when his opponent flopped a set there was no way that he was going to get away from the hand. Dwan may have gotten lucky, but most of the money went in after Durrrr made his draw on the river. Why not try out some of these skills right now at Pinnacle Poker with 30% rakeback!
